Ramoser suspended
Italian forward to miss next game
The infraction occurred during Canada and Italy’s preliminary round game on 16 May. With 56 seconds left in the first period and Canada leading 1-0, Alexandre Burrows brought the puck in just below the blue line and Ramoser lined him up for a hit. Burrows anticipated the check and dumped the puck into the corner, after which Ramoser tried to finish the check, missing Burrows’ shoulder but making contact in the right upper thigh area with his right knee. Both player fell to the ice after the hit and Burrows had to leave the game.
Following the hit play was stopped and Ramoser was assessed a major penalty plus a game misconduct. The Disciplinary Panel determined that Ramoser’s actions were in violation with rule 536 b and endangered the safety of Burrows. The Panel agrees that Ramoser had no intention to injure Borrows but that he did initiate contact illegally with his knee and must take responsibility for causing the injury to Burrows.
