The Latvian Ice Hockey Federation announced that it will continue with Ted Nolan as the national team coach for the third straight year.
Although the board was not satisfied with the results in the last two World Championships – Latvia finished in 10th and 11th place respectively – it has decided to continue with Nolan, who earned an automatic contract extension by qualifying for the Olympic men’s ice hockey tournament next year in Sochi, Russia.
Nolan, a former NHL Coach of the Year, will have his first big challenge in February when Latvia will face the Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland in the group stage at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Next May Latvia will play in a group with Finland, Russia, USA, Switzerland, Germany, Belarus and Kazakhstan in the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk, Belarus.
